Stress is a killer and as an entrepreneur, your stress levels can reach sky high levels if you don’t take steps to lead a balanced lifestyle. Here are a few tips to help you manage your stress levels so they don’t take over your life and burn you out.
Mindfulness. This could be in the form of prayer, meditation, or just quiet time that you take every day for 10 minutes or more to center yourself, calm your mind and mentally prepare to meet the world.
Exercise. You don’t have to run marathons! Daily exercise of 20 minutes or more to raise your heart rate and get a sweat going will do wonders for your physical and mental wellbeing. A healthy person will be able to take on the stresses and strains of running a business.
Nutrition. Eat a diet that is rich in wholesome nutrients. This means real food, not processed junk that will satisfy in the short term, but harm you later on. Moderate your consumption of red meat and increase fruits, vegetables, lean meats and fish.
Eliminate. What raises your blood pressure or gets you agitated? Get rid of it or change it. It could be an underperforming employee that needs retraining, or a difficult client that has to go. Whatever it is, deal with it so it doesn’t engulf you and stop you from moving ahead.
Hours. Burning the candle at both ends? You know it will only end in tears. Long hours may be necessary for tight deadlines or huge projects, but if you are still working long after everyone is tucked up in bed on a regular basis, your exhaustion will eventually win.
Sleep. Get plenty of sleep. Your mind and body needs it. Establish a healthy bedtime routine that includes relaxation, light reading and no electronics. You will wake up refreshed and ready to tackle anything.
Don’t let stress get the better of you. The sooner you implement some of these calming strategies, the quicker you will see results.
